Police Thursday morning (June 23) are on a massive operation along the Llandovery stretch of the North Coast Highway near where four people died following a three vehicle crash Tuesday.
More than a dozen police up to the rank of inspector, with wrecker in tow, have set up operations on both sides of the highway, in St Ann. They are being assisted by personnel from the Island Traffic Authority.
On Tuesday a car carrying six Bahia Principe staff crashed near the intersection with the Mines/Mt Zion road killing four. Dead are: 24-year-old Jaynor Powell of Charles Town, St Mary; the driver, 21-year-old Michael Glasgow of Village Green, St Ann’s Bay; 22-year-old Eric Forbes of Steerfield and Teisha Douglas Steerfield, all of St Ann. Douglas was also from St Thomas.
In the operation this morning the police are checking vehicle papers and roadworthiness of vehicles. Their operation has led to almost all Brown’s Town to Ocho Rios buses coming off the road, leaving people stranded.
Last week Thursday a similar operation was carried out along the same highway but at Priory and at Drax Hall. Then, the Transport Authority personnel were also involved.
At that time police seized some 20 vehicles removed several registration plates and issued more than 40 tickets.
