A policeman has been in the Ocho Rios police station lock-up since last week for the murder of a man in St Mary over a gun.Dead is Anthony George Hudson, 25-year-old musician of Richmond district, near Highgate in St Mary. He also lives in St Catherine.Hudson’s body has not been found but an eye witness to his alleged murder has come forward saying the man was shot dead. The Times investigation reveals that that man has been taken into protective custody. Meanwhile police are searching for another man in connection with the murder.
Deputy Superintendent in charge of crime at Area 2, Bertel Moore would not confirm any details put forward by The Times but said only, “We have a file at the DPP’s office and we expect a response this week.”Hudson had gone missing in late January and the mother of his child reported him missing and a public appeal was made for anyone knowing his whereabouts to contact the police. Police sources say they received intelligence that Hudson had been involved with some bad company and with a gun. Their investigations led to information Hudson was killed.The cop was taken into custody last week and was interviewed in Ocho Rios by police, in the presence of his lawyer Oswest Senior Smith.
Hudson’s family has not seen him since Friday January 24. He reportedly left home wearing a white ‘T’ shirt, dark blue Jeans shorts, a pair of white sneakers, grey peak cap and carrying a light blue Jansport knapsackReports are that Hudson had come in possession of an illegal gun and that the cop was seeking to recover it from him. Hudson refused to turn over the gun. It is not clear how the murder took place as police officers contacted by North Coast Times would only acknowledge the arrest but said the matter was sensitive.Sources told The Times that the policeman who is an instructor at the police training school in Twickenham Park arranged to meet Hudson in Esher, near Martin, St Mary and that Hudson was shot and killed. Reports are that the gun Hudson had was taken from him and made its way into the hands of a criminal gunman.Area 2 police have acknowledged the arrest of a policeman and said he was taken from Ocho Rios where he was arrested, back to St Mary. A file has been sent to the office of the DPP for a ruling which is expected by Wednesday this week.
