COP ACCIDENTALLY SHOT AFTER BIZARRE INCIDENT

MAN FIRES ON POLICE AFTER CAR STOPPED IN ST ANN’S BAY

ST ANN’S BAY, St Ann; Sept. 8, 2024

A policeman was accidentally shot by a colleague in the thigh and admitted to hospital following an incident in which lawmen were reportedly fired on by a man in a car they had stopped near St Ann’s Bay, St Ann.

Reports are the incident took place about 6:30 Saturday evening along the AGR Byfield Highway, outside St Ann’s Bay. Police said three armed constables aboard a service vehicle saw a silver-coloured car ahead of them being driven in a dangerous, reckless, and careless manner. Their vehicle gave chase and when they caught up with the car, signalled the driver to stop. When the car stopped a man emerged from the front passenger seat and opened fire at the police.

Police returned the fire. The man escaped running away in a nearby gully.

Police said they were in the process of accosting two other men in the vehicle when the M-16 of one of the officers accidentally discharged with being hit in his right thigh. He was admitted in stable condition, at the nearby hospital.

Two men in the car that had been stopped were arrested. They are from Priory and Seville Heights.

The scene was processed by Area 2 Scene of Crime detectives and INDECOM.
