Lime Hall had a huge celebration, Friday, August 29, for record-breaking, top scorer for the Jamaica Under-15 female team, Jody Brown who is from the community, near St Ann’s Bay.
The Lime Hall Citizens Association and residents, with support from past students of the Lime Hall Primary school put on the function, in the square, for 12-year-old Jody Brown of Gully Street in Lime Hall. She scored 21 goals for Jamaica to set a new record in the recent CONCACAF Under 15 football tournament held in the Cayman Islands.. She also walked away with the leading goal scorer prize in the competiton.
The function was held at the Lime Hall Square where a large crowd was in attendance to hail and celebrate with the local heroine.
Jody is also this season’s top striker in the St Ann Parish Under 15 league and was honoured by the St. Ann Football Association for her performance, at the Couples San Souci Hotel recently. There she was presented with a trophy and cash incentives to help assist with her back to school preparation.
Jody was the only female player on the Lime Hall Primary School Male football Team, but after her GSAT she went to Ocho Rios High School. Young Jody Brown of Lime Hall was coached locally by Floyd Hanson a former player of the community’s major league team, Benfica, while she was a student at the Lime Hall Primary School.
On Friday, she was taken on a motorcade tour led by Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Desmond Gilmore, from Lime Hall Square through to sections of St. Ann’s Bay and back to Lime Hall, where the event climaxed with a mass function.
Her 21 goals, included six goals in one match and four in another, plus a hat trick and doubles and singles. She was presented with gifts trophies and cash incentives, courtesy of the Lime Hall Citizens Association, The Lime Hall Neighbourhood Watch and The Lime Hall Alumni Association (based in New York) USA.
An elated Jody Brown told our correspondent that she feels good and excited.
Coach Xavier Gilbert said that she was the darling of the CONCACAF. He said she was a lethal goal scoring machine and pointed out that she is dubbed the ‘Baby face assassin’ from Lime Hall. He said Jody was a very promising player and very good up front and just has a knack for finishing .
Mayor Gilmore who was the guest speaker at the evening’s proceeding had high praises for the initiative and described her as a role model for the community of Lime Hall and the entire Jamaica. “You make us proud,” mayor Gilmore stated. He promised assistance in furthering her career.
Mayor Gilmore made a presentation of a cash incentive to Jody on behalf of the Alumni Association; Rev. Clifford Cameron presented a trophy on behalf of the Lime Hall Neighbourhood Watch; Marjorie Parris also presented a trophy on behalf of the Lime Hall Citizens Association. President of the Lime Hall Citizens Association Basil Nunes chaired the function while vice president Jennica Bambury Harvey, who was the organizer of the tournament, conveyed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to all who contributed and support this function to make it a success.
