College student on murder charge remanded

Purnell Malcolm, 24-year-old college student of Islington, St Mary, who was arrested and charged for theWednesday, June 25 stabbing death of Lincoln Jones, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the St Mary RM Court on Thursday, June 17. Resident Magistrate Andrea Collins presided. Jones was reportedly stabbed to death in Islington after he intervened in a dispute between Malcolm and his girlfriend whom he had accused of being unfaithful to him. Malcolm who had allegedly been attacking his girlfriend and child’s mother, Shanice Bennette and her mother reportedly turned his rage to Jones, Bennett’s uncle who was stabbed to death at Bennett’s house. Malcolm, a student at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) was handed over to the police by his father. Jones was said to have been stabbed 32 times. Attorney representing Malcolm, Dane Marsh, told the court that the number of times Jones was stabbed might not be 32 but about thirteen. He also indicated that he would defer his bail application to a next court date. Malcolm will return to court on Thursday, August 21.
