THANKSGIVING SERVICE TOLD OF YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO LIME HALL
The tributes to the late Clive Devon Brown at his thanksgiving service painted him as a committed community man, dedicated to the promotion of Lime Hall and football.
Hundreds of friends, families, and well-wishers turned out to celebrate the life of Mr Brown, popularly known as Dukie, at a thanksgiving service on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Lime Hall Baptist Church in St Ann.
Brown died on December 16 after a long illness.
Sports Editor at IRIE FM Radio, Robert Willams in his tribute said Clive Brown was an astute sports journalist who had a community leadership role in spreading sports news across Jamaica and the world.
He said reports by Mr Brown, went far and wide, whether in print or over the airwaves.
Mr. Williams says that Mr. Brown had a passion for his job. As a result, he provided sports news to several media houses including IRIE FM Radio, North Coast Times, Jamaica Observer, The Gleaner, Middlesex News and the former JBC.
He said that the Lime Hall Corner league that Brown started was the oldest in Jamaica and it helped the format gain significance across the island.
President of the St. Ann Football Association Danny Beckford also praised the late Clive Brown, as a sportsman, reporter nd football administrator. He said Clive gave him full support as a referee at the community level. Mr Beckford said Mr Brown put Lime Hall on the world wide web with his reporting of sports activities in St Ann.
Also paying tribute to the late Clive Brown was Councillor for the Lime Hall Division, Genevor Gordon Bailey. She lauded Clive Brown for the role he played in community sports. Mrs. Gordon Bailey said Brown was a very dedicated person, who supported the community of Lime Hall in the field of sports. She considered him a legend in the community.
Minister of the St. Ann’s Bay Baptist Reverend Andrew Gordon called on church and community members to move forward in their daily lives as the country was in a crisis.
He says more people with a community spirit, such as displayed by Clive Brown, were needed.
Also paying tribute was a close friend of the late Clive Brown, Peter Scott.
Relatives of Mr Brown performed a tribute in song.
Camesha Henry and Jayshanae, both grandnieces, of the deceased, read the lessons.
Opal Haye read the eulogy. In it, Clive Brown was described as a community person and a sports enthusiast who was responsible for forming of the Benfica Football Club and who dedicated time and resources to building Lime Hall Community and Corner League.
Clive Brown leaves to mourn two sisters, Beverley Brown and Kadeen Haye; two brothers Winston Brown and Denham Brown, and a host of relatives, friends, and well-wishers.
