SCHOOL LEAVING CEREMONY CELEBRATES ACHIEVEMENT, GROWTH’
CLAREMONT, St Ann; July 5, 2025
The Claremont Basic School, St Ann, held its School Leaving Ceremony on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Beechamville Methodist Church in St. Ann. The event, filled with heartfelt speeches and vibrant cultural performances, was a celebration of achievement, growth, and community spirit.
Seventeen students – nine girls and eight boys said farewell to the Basic school as they headed to primary level institutions.

Principal Sharon Seymour delivered the school report. She highlighted the academic strides made by students throughout the year and expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of parents and the community. She praised the dedication of the teaching staff and emphasized the importance of continued educational support as the young graduates prepare for the next stage of their academic journey.
The keynote address was delivered by Karen Morgan, who offered words of encouragement and inspiration to the school leavers.
Chairing the ceremony was Antonette James-Briscoe.

Among the distinguished guests were Board Chairman Christine Hall-Smith and Vice Chairman Ronald Haughton, both of whom expressed pride in the school’s achievements. Also in attendance were Councillor Kaydian Harty; P.T.A President, Â Natasha Gordon, Reverend Michael Llewelyn, and Sergeant Odette Murphy.
The ceremony featured a variety of items and cultural presentations, including dances, poems, and songs, showcasing the talents and creativity of the students. The highlight of the programme was the valedictory speech delivered by Jahnae Dixon, who moved the audience with her reflections and gratitude.

Claremont Basic School strives for excellence and remains committed to developing lifelong learners for a global society.
There are four academic staff members who are trained in Early Childhood Care and Development; namely, Sharon Seymour, Veneisha Dixon, Kareen Hudson, and Dioan Lowe. To provide greater inclusion, the facility opens its doors to receiving students clinically diagnosed with special developmental needs, such as autism. During the 2024-2025 academic year, a ‘Shadow’ -Miss Sara-Lee Pottinger was employed by the Ministry of Education to specially support an exceptional child.  The school is also supported by a janitor Maxine Williams, and a cook. Nyoka Brown, a trainee from HEART NSTA Trust was welcomed to complete her ‘on the job’ training at the school.
