Two armed men held up and robbed a Chinese business operator at his supermarket on Wednesday, March 12 in Tower Isle, St Mary and escaped with over $200,000, more than half of it in cash. Reports are that about 11:15 a.m., two men, both of whom were neatly attired walked into the popular June Supermarket, at a small shopping complex on the main road at Tower Isle. The men pretended to be customers. It is alleged that the men then pulled weapons and approached the cashier, the Chinese businessman, and demanded cash.Police say $120, 000 was taken from the cahier’s person and $25 000 from the cash register. It is reported that the men then took phone cards valued at $50 000, cigarettes totaling $30 000 and the hard drive from the security camera.The supermarket is normally guarded by a plain clothes security guard and has cameras in all sections of the supermarket.Police say so far no one has been taken into custody in connection with the robbery. They say however that they have descriptions and are investigating the matter.
