Child to be pulled from Ochi Primary after parent tussles with teacher

The child whose parent was reportedly involved in a tussle with a vice principal at Ocho Rios Primary School, St Ann, is to be removed from the school.

Teachers at the school on Milford Road in the tourist resort protested on the morning shift after an altercation between a parent and the vice principal. Several carried placards and called for security and respect.

The parent reportedly went to the school after she was informed that her son’s phone had been confiscated by the school administration. Apparently, there was a tussle in the library between the vice principal and the parent, resulting in the vice principal being hit with an object.

Chairman of the School Board, Michael Belnavis told North Cost Times that part of the settlement of the dispute that erupted Monday was that the female parent involved said she would remove her son from the school.

Mr Belnavis said he met with the parent and with the vice principal involved and they had a meeting with the police.

He said he met with all the teachers and tried to assure them that the Board would move to improve security at the school and also to have dispute-resolution sessions for the staff and parents.

Here is Mr Belnavis:
