Part of Investigation Into Murder of Street People
Police have charged a man in their investigation of the murder of five people since the start of the year, in the Ocho Rios area of St Ann.
Police have named him as Richard Belnavis with addresses in Ocho Rios St Ann and Port Maria St Mary. He was arrested on Thursday, September 14, and charged on Monday, September 18.
Belnavis has been charged with two (2) counts of murder, two (2) counts of wounding with intent and one (1) count of unlawful wounding.
These charges were laid for the murder of Junior Haye, 50 years old, unemployed of Buckfield, Ocho Rios, which was committed on July 27, 2023, at Bucksfield Community Centre, and also the murder of an unidentified man committed on April 10, 2023 at Taj Mahal Plaza Ocho Rios, St Ann.
In addition, he was charged with wounding with Intent of Phillicia Hyatt 60 years old, and Howard Gordon 64 years old both of Bucksfield, Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell in charge of St Ann Police says detectives are still carrying out investigations to gather the necessary evidence with a view to laying additional charges against Richard Belnavis.
