 CHARGED IN HOUSE FIRE THAT KILLED WOMAN

39-Y-O ST MARY MAN TO FACE COURT

PORT MARIA, St Mary, October 26, 2024–

A construction worker has been charged with the death of a woman in a house fire in Richmond, St Mary last month.

He is thirty-nine-year-old Omar Malcolm of Lewisburg district, in the parish.

Dead is 65-year-old Desrine Malcolm of Cane Heap, Richmond.

Reports from the Richmond Police are that at about 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 3, residents saw the house on fire and alerted them. The fire department was also alerted and conducted cooling-down operations.

The charred remains of Ms Malcolm were seen among the debris. The scene was processed and the body was removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

On Monday, October 14, 2024, Malcolm was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged on Wednesday, October 23, after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

Police did not say what the motive was or whether there was any relationship between the two Malcolms

Omar Malcolm’s court date is being finalized.
