A 28-year-old painter, Carson Edwards, of Exchange district has been charged for the murder of 23-year-old Kevon Simpson, of the same district, Ocho Rios in St Ann. Simpson, also called BaddaBada, a tiler, was stabbed dead, allegedly over a deck of cards used in gambling, on Friday, May 16 at a shop and bar on Middle Street, Exchange. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. in the presence of several people, including men who had been involved in gambling earlier with Simpson. Reports are that Simpson and some friends were playing cards when Edwards, also called Bull Bull asked to be involved. However, Simpson refused his involvement and an argument developed. Simpson even went to get a new card pack, reportedly because he did not want to use cards belonging to Edwards. It is further reported that after Edwards was rejected several times he disrupted the game saying nobody would be allowed to gamble if he was not involved. He and Simpson were reportedly involved in a tussle and Edwards followed Simpson around at the location, expressing his disfavour of not being allowed to gamble with the others. It is further reported that Edwards walked up to Simpson said some words to him and Simpson was seen clutching his chest. “Bull, a stab you stab me?” Simpson reportedly asked, as he placed his hand over the wound. He walked away and, as he was falling, held on to the shopkeeper but collapsed to the floor. Reports are that Edwards simply walked away with the knife in his hand. Simpson was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His mother Michelle Lindsay said the killing shocked her and she is yet to recover. Edwards was handed over to police the same night and was charged last week. A date for his first court appearance was not set up to Monday.
