Business people and other residents in St Ann are waiting on the police high command to confirm reports that there has been a shakeup of the high command in the parish with the departure of senior superintendent Wayne Cameron.
Reports have been circulating for weeks that Cameron was to be moved from St Ann. Two well established business people and an attorney had told the North Coast Times in mid-September they were writing to commissioner Carl Williams to oppose the move. However, it emerged last week that Cameron is to be replaced October 1.
Reports also are that the head of the Ocho Rios division, DSP Gary McKenzie is also to be moved.
Meantime, still in Area 2, the head of Portland, Oberlin Wright Smith has been replaced by superintendent Rex Swearing. It is being reported that consideration is being given to the promotion of DSP Dwight Powell to the rank of a full superintendent. Meantime, he is acting in charge of St Mary since the departure of superintendent Stephanie Lindsay.
