In 2007, citizens of St. Ann’s Bay formed a committee to work assiduously for the educational, physical, cultural and financial development of the town. A series of events have been arranged to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the committee.
The first event, which was the Annual Santa Gloria Day Rally, took place on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the St. Ann Parish Library. The focus this year was on the rich cultural heritage of St. Ann’s Bay/Santa Gloria. The theme was “LoveYour Culture and You will Love Yourself and Others.” Guest presenter was Norma Walters, JP, who exposed the students to traditional songs, sayings, ring games and music. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and actively participated.
A booklet “A Glimpse of Santa Gloria” was sent to the schools to prepare them for a quiz. A film, showing historic sites with relevant information, was shown. The schools were then asked questions based on these two sources. Winner of the prize was Ferncourt High School, second place was Hampton Prep and third place Marcus Garvey Technical High.
The next event will be the Tenth Anniversary Church Service at the St. Ann’s Bay Methodist Church on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 7:30 a.m.
