Hundreds of people from across the island converged on the grounds of Irie FM, Ocho Rios St Ann on Sunday, August 17, for a full day of celebration to mark the 127th birthday of National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey. A part of the celebration was aired live on radio, starting at 6 a.m. with Ma’at Kheru and Mutabaruka as hosts. The events continued throughout the day until about 9 p.m. , with drumming poetry reading, including the writings of Marcus Garvey, musical tributes and speeches climaxed with the main presentation by US professor Dr Oba T’Shacka. A stage show with a number of artistes, including Capleton, Ninja Man and Teflon, closed the event.
