DENNIS MCINTOSH FACES A NEW BATTLE
On Sunday, May 7, a special celebration is to take place in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
It is a brunch in honour of the accomplishments of Chef Dennis McIntosh who has worked in the culinary industry for more than 30 years. He was executive chef at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Resort when it opened in 2016, where he was responsible for supervising some 80 staff members.
Moon Palace Foundation and the Culinary Federation of Jamaica are collaborating in putting on the event at the hotel in Ocho Rios.
The brunch is also in support of the Chef who has been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.
Moon Palace Foundation says the fact that Mr McIntosh left the resort three years ago did not diminish their enthusiasm for celebrating his achievements and collaborating in this brunch.
Mr McIntosh told the North Coast Times that, after the diagnosis, on good advice and with proper research he decided to stay in Jamaica and get treatment here.
He says it was the right decision as being around family and friends with their positive attitude and love has been very helpful.
According to Chef McIntosh, when he was first diagnosed it was a heavy blow. “It was a shock like I never felt before,” he said of the diagnosis in January this year. “I lost 15 pounds in weeks.”
But he said, “The love of my wife and family and being surrounded by a lot of friends and colleagues have helped me tremendously.”
Mr McIntosh says that he has made very good improvement over the last month, to the point he is now ready for chemotherapy. He said he is coming from a place where he could not manage walking up stairs to now where he is able to swim, and walk a mile.
Following his return from overseas in the 1990s, Chef McIntosh worked at several large properties including Boscobel Beach, Ciboney and Ritz Carlton. He worked at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande between 2016 and 2019 where he said training was a cornerstone of the daily effort to deliver top-quality service every day to the hotels’ guests.
He also opened restaurants at Secrets Resorts in Montego Bay and Grand A View Restaurant and Event Place. For Brunch details WhatsApp 876-851-1388
