After working at the Happy Hour Nursery and Day Care in Cromwelland, St. Mary, principal and teacher Careen Oliver Clarke realized that she had a passion for teaching children and started her own school in 1997. This institution, Olivere Kindergarten, located in Ranch District, St Mary, where Mrs. Clarke grew up, was built on a piece of land that was given to her to construct a house.Having dedicated 22 years of her life to education, Mrs Clarke was recently recognized by the St. Mary Parish Council for invaluable service to the field of Education. Before working at the nursery and starting her own early childhood institution, this education stalwart was a supervisor at a meat mart in Portmore St Catherine.“It is my passion to teach children,” said Mrs Clarke. “I am not in it for what I can achieve but for the results the children give and for working with the community.” there are 91 students enrolled at Olivere Kindergarten. Mrs. Clarke holds Level one, two and three certificates in Early Childhood Education from the HEART Institution in Port Maria, St Mary and is expecting to complete her diploma in Early Childhood Education by December of this year.
