The Canadian woman who has been accused of orchestrating the murder of her Jamaican husband, 25-year-old Jamari Reid, was offered bail when she appeared before the Trelawny Parish Court on Wednesday, September 9.
Fifty-six-year-old Monique Cooke-Reid was offered bail in the sum of $750,000 when she made her first court appearance on charges of solicitation to commit murder.
She is expected to reappear before the court on Wednesday, November 2.
The information was confirmed by head of the Trelawny police superintendent Clive Blair.
The detectives attached to the Falmouth Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) on Friday, September 2 had charged Monique Cooke-Reid, a retired psychologist of Ontario, Canada with arranging the murder of her husband, who is half her age.
Reports are that on the night of Wednesday, August 24, around 10:00 o’clock the young entertainer was at his home in the company of two friends when they were pounced upon by two gunmen. The attackers tied up the occupants of the house before shooting Reid multiple times in the chest and head.
Police found Reid’s bullet-riddled body in a pool of blood with his hands and feet bound.
It was said by residents that the gunmen casually walked out the back door of the building after committing the murder.
Their nonchalant departure and the fact that the other occupants of the house were not hurt, spurred reports and speculation that the deejay was in fact marked for death.
In the meantime Supt Blair explained to The Times that the police are still searching for the culprits who are responsible for Reid’s death.
