BUSINESSWOMAN MURDERED IN OCHI

RELATIVE ESCAPES DRAMATIC CAR AMBUSH

OCHO RIOS, St Ann;; May 5, 2025

A St Ann businesswoman was shot and killed early Monday morning, May 5, on her way home from the bar she operated in Ocho Rios.

Dead is Thelma Brown, of Hyatts Field, Breadnut Hill, just outside Ocho Rios, St Ann. Her age was not immediately ascertained.

Police said she died from gunshot wounds to the head and had a wad of cash in her hand. It is not clear if she was the intended target of the attack and murder.

Reports are that Brown, also called Joyce,  was picked up by a close relative, in a white Probox, from her bar in Ocho Rios and was being driven home sometime after 1 a.m. Monday.

Upon reaching the scheme at Breadnut Hill, a silver Toyota Crown motor car drove in front of the Probox and blocked the narrow, winding road.

The driver managed to manoeuvre the Probox around the Toyota Crown and continued up the road. The Toyota Crown followed the car in which Brown and her relative were travelling. The Toyota Crown was again used to block the path of the Probox carrying the woman and her relative.

At this point, the relative put the vehicle in reverse and tried to escape. The vehicle crashed into a wall along the main road.

The relative exited the vehicle and ran into the bushes when he heard several gunshots. He ran through bushes to where he got assistance to call the police.

On the arrival of the police, the body of a female was seen lying on its back in a pool of blood, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head. The body was clad in a white blouse, burgundy pants, and a pair of black and brown slippers. Brown was holding a wad of cash in her left hand.
