The initiative is part of a transformative project for the Steer Town and Chalky Hill communities of St. Ann. This is part of a three-year partnership between the Sandals Foundation, Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA), and Coca-Cola LA.

The team comprising team members from Sandals Dunn’s River and Sandals Royal Plantation, de-bushed and irrigated the greenhouse areas as well as started the germination of seeds to be replanted in short order.

“This is a project that we really enjoy,” noted Jesse-Jo Johnson, Landscaping Manager at Sandals Dunn’s River who was a major part of the initiative. “Once we get seeds planted the greenhouse will be in full effect and the school will be able to reap the benefits.”

The Sandals Foundation was instrumental in purchasing the seeds, seedlings, fertilizer and supplies needed for the successful completion of the project.

Principal of the Steer Town Primary, Michelle White-Guy, welcomed the project.

The Sandals Foundation recently completed a Peace Park at the school by adding a peace mural and other amenities as well as donating an industrial stove to be used in the school’s breakfast programme.

Students at Steer Town Primary and the Chalky Hill Primary School in St. Ann were given a lesson in conflict resolution by the Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA) in collaboration with the Sandals Foundation recently.

The Peace initiative was aimed at instilling the values of peace and unity within young minds. They also want to foster a community of harmony and understanding in Steer Town which has faced several issues in recent years.
