Back after 3 years, man slain at home in Runaway Bay
Speculations are rife about the circumstances under which a man was brutally
murdered, allegedly by men known to him, in his home at Mount Edgecombe in Runaway Bay, St. Ann on Friday.
The mutilated body for 41-year old Dwight Ashall, was found by police sometime after 10:30 p.m. inside his home on Friday, August 8, three months following his return from the United States after about three years of being away.
He was stabbed some 28 times. Sources say it is clear Ashall put up a fight before he was killed.
The tragic and brutal murder has left tongues wagging in the usually quiet community of Mount Edgecombe and the general Runaway Bay community.
Police are questioning two men who reportedly led investigators to the bloodied and mutilated body after they were handed over to cops reportedly in Discovery Bay.
It is reported that both men had been taken by a taxi from Runaway Bay to Discovery Bay where they aroused suspicion as one of them had a bloodied towel over his hand and the other had blood all over his clothes.
ALONE
Police have not yet released the details about how Ashall was murdered, but have said that the men are being questioned in an effort to unearth more information.
There are reports that some items were taken from the home, including cash, debit cards and a tablet computer but robbery is not believed to be the motive of the attack on Asphall, the father of a six year old.
Mr Ashall was said to be alone at the time when he was attacked.
According to reports reaching North Coast Times, a taxi operator reportedly picked up two men, covered in blood in the Runaway Bay area, and drove them to the Discovery Bay police station. It’s reported that after police questioned the men, they went to Ashall’s home at Mount Edgecombe where the gruesome discovery was made.
One of the men, had earlier gone to visit Ashall at his home earlier Friday, August 8. The male friend reportedly left and returnedc sometime later with another male friend. It is still unclear what led to the attack on Mr Ashall or what relationship existed among the three.
Police made the discovery about 10:30 p.m. Friday night. The body reportedly had several stab wounds. The area was cordoned off and the crime scene tape as well as flashing police lights attracted curious onlookers to the area. At least two other tenants live on the house where Ashall lived. However, none was at home at the time.
Ashall’s sister, Suzette Steele said she was alerted to her brother’s house by one of her colleagues who called to inform her that something was happening there.
Ms Steel said she journeyed from Discovery Bay to Mount Edgecombe only to be greeted with news that her brother had been murdered.
“It’s (the murder) having a lot of impact on the family, I am just not myself, from morning I haven’t had a meal, I don’t want anything to eat,” the distraught sister told The North Coast Times by telephone, Saturday afternoon.
PEACEFUL, KIND
She said she was not aware of any conflicts involving her brother and other persons. She described him as a very peaceful, quiet, kind and friendly person.
“He was very jovial, very kind, and very friendly, maybe too friendly, he socialized with everybody,” she added.
Ms Steele said her brother had been away from Jamaica for about three years and was working in the US on the work programme. She said he only returned in May, a day after Mother’s Day. His wife who also works on the programme is aboard.
Ms Steel said she has been informed and is devastated by the news.
Ms Steele told The Times that the entire family has been traumatized and puzzled by the brutal manner in which her brother met his demise.
She is hoping that that matter will be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice.
