DAMAGE FROM RAINFALL LEAVES STRUCTURE UNSAFE
PORT MARIA, St Mary; Nov. 28, 2024
The Cox Street Bridge in Port Maria, St. Mary, has been closed.
The National Works Agency (NWA) in a release Thursday, November 28, said the bridge has been closed “due to structural damage, which has rendered the structure unsafe for motorists.”
The NWA said this follows persistent rainfall that has been impacting sections of the island, since the passing of Tropical Storm Raphael. The NWA says its technical team is now conducting the necessary damage assessment, with a view to having the situation remedied in short order.
During the period of closure, motorists travelling from the Annotto Bay direction, towards Cox Street, may travel via Stennett Street, before making a left turn on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of Courts Jamaica Limited).
Motorists travelling from the Oracabessa direction towards Cox Street may travel via Stennett Street, before making a right turn, on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of the St. Mary Municipal Corporation building).
Motorists are being urged to obey the posted warning signs as failure to do so may have dire consequences to life and property.
