RETURNS TO COURT MONDAY
OCHO RIOS, St Ann: June 21, 2024
The 14-year-old Ocho Rios High schoolboy arrested for taking a gun to school that ended up shooting one of his schoolmates has now been charged.
The boy who cannot be named because he is a minor was charged Thursday evening, June 20. He has been charged with wounding with intent with the use of a prohibited weapon.
This arose out of the incident just before 1 p.m. Monday, June 17, when a 12-year-old female student was shot in the thigh by the gun that reportedly went off in the boy’s knapsack.
The boy reportedly took the gun to school and was showing it to others when it accidentally went off, and the girl was hit. There are still unconfirmed details about what happened.
Police say the gun is a Glock pistol and they are trying to determine where it came from and how the boy got access to it.
He was taken to court on Thursday and is to return Monday, June 24, 2024.
