ONE WAS WAITING AT THE LIGHTS AT RICHMOND ESTATE, MORE TRAFFIC DELAYS
UPDATED….1:00 p.m. May 1, 2025
One man is dead and another seriously injured following a road crash involving two goods delivery trucks at Richmond Estate, St Ann, on the North Coast Highway. The police confirmed that one man died, but his identity is yet to be confirmed.
The crash occurred Thursday morning, May 1, at the traffic lights regulating the intersection of the road into the Richmond Estate and the Highway.
Reports to the North Coast Times were that an International truck, headed westerly toward Runaway Bay, had stopped on the red at the lights. Another smaller truck, an Isuzu, headed in the same direction, came and slammed into the rear of the stopped truck pushing it about five metres.
The cab of the Isuzu was badly smashed, and reports are that fire brigade personnel had to help remove the sideman from the front of the truck. He and the driver were taken to St Ann’s Bay Hospital just over a mile away where the sideman was pronounced dead
. The driver of the International truck, who spoke to the North Coast Times, said he was waiting at the traffic lights when he saw, through his rearview mirror, the other truck coming at a terrific speed. The driver of the International Truck, from Mandeville, was not hurt.
The crash resulted in long lines of traffic on the very road where last week Thursday a truck carrying cement crashed at Priory – half a mile away — almost shutting down the thoroughfare for two days.
