Biker sped to death A motorcyclist disobeyed the police and rode to his own death in St Ann last week.

Dead is 23-year-old Chevel Edwards, unemployed of Springvale district, Bog Walk, St Catherine. Edwards is said to have been staying in Brown’s Town for a brief period.

However last Thursday afternoon, September 28, Edwards drove his motorcycle toward Runaway Bay when he became involved in a series of incidents that ended with his death.

Reports to North Coast Times are that police were on the scene of a bus crash near Cross Roads, Runaway Bay, early Thursday afternoon. The bus travelling on the Brown’s Town to Ocho Rios route had overturned near the Runaway Bay New Testament Church. No one died in the mishap but several people were reportedly injured.

During police investigation at the scene of the crash, a motorcyclist, with a pillion, was stopped by the cops and asked to park his bike and hand over the keys. The cyclist handed over his keys and was among the crowd as the cops paid attention to the crash.

However, further reports are that, while the police were occupied with taking reports at the scene, the biker, Chevel Edwards used another set of keys, started his bike and sped off, leaving the pillion.

It is reported that he headed west, toward Discovery Bay and was barely gone a half mile, when in the vicinity of the Pre Mix plant, at Pear tree Bottom the motorbike crashed. It is said the cyclist was thrown off the vehicle and one of his legs was severed in the crash with a truck. Other body parts were also reportedly severed.

According to the police’s information arm, CCU, reports from the Discovery Bay Police are that about 1:22 p.m., Edwards was driving a motorcycle along the roadway when he allegedly undertook a motor truck, which was about to make a left turn, resulting in a collision. The driver of the motorcycle sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
