LAVON GREEN REMEMBERED
A large gathering turned out Thursday night for a Candlelight remembrance of Lavon Green, businessman who died April 12.
He was 90 and had been ill for some time.
Mr Green was one of the most popular men in Brown’s Town and particularly Minard Hill, St Ann, where he operated a grocery shop for many years. To some he was simply Mass Adam or just Greenie.
He worked with Kaiser as a machinist for years and later went into construction.
Many people of Minard Hill remember him for his kindness. He leaves to mourn wife Adella and seven children. One of his sons, Levon, remembers how, many years ago when cars were not commonplace, his father used to take expectant mothers to the hospital to be delivered. “People would come all hours of the night and say ‘Mr Green you can take so and so to hospital?’. He would do it, and he never charged anything,” the young Mr Green recollects.

He said his father was a provider not just for his family. “He took care of his family and other people’s family,” Green said.
Among those attending the Candlelight ceremony, April 20, were leading businessmen of the area, and political figures including Councillor Carlton Ricketts (JLP) and PNP Councillor-caretaker Philpott Mitchell. Funeral Service is set for May 20.
