BIG TREAT IN OCHI ENDS BACK-TO-SCHOOL PREP

Councillor Belnavis Joins Forces With Sponsors

 

Scores of children and some adults received benefits from a back-to-school treat put on by Ocho Rios Councillor Michael Belnavis in association with Dr Phill Entertainment in Ocho Rios, St Ann, Saturday, September 2.

People came from several communities in and around Ocho Rios, and well beyond the resort town to benefit from medical checks, eye screening and books and stationery. There was a fun element with the popular merry-go-round rides and bounce-about. A clown was also on hand. Poppy was on the PA system spinning music.

The treat took place at the Ocho Rios Primary School. Some adults came out with their children and even grandchildren. Other children came out alone.

One of the parents busy with his son to get the eye screening and medicals was Everton James. Mr James told The

North Coast Times he wanted to make sure his son was okay for school.

Councillor Belnavis said he was thrilled that so many had turned out. He said he wanted to help as this could be a time of anxiety for parents who were short of resources.

Councillor Belnavis praised sponsors who included political figures such as MP Marsha Smith and aspiring JLP candidate for North East St Ann, Matthew Samuda.

He also pointed to Heaven Sent Foundation which provided health checks and meals for some of those at the treat, and Phoenix Health and Vision Center did several screenings.

Danielle  Clarke, Fund Raiser and Public Relations Officer for Heaven Sent told North Coast Times the Foundation was there doing what it did best – helping people.  Its COOs Alejandra Williams and Angella Whyne were part of the team ensuring children got their medicals done.
