In a packed Council Chamber today, Thursday, March 7, Michael Belnavis was chosen as Mayor of St Ann’s Bay and Chairman of the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC).

It is the right and privilege of the winning Party to select the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the parish (Local Authority) it has won. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) won 11 of the 16 divisions to the PNP’s five, in St Ann, in the February 26 Local Government Election
The North Coast Times reported last week Friday, March 1, that the JLP hierarchy had voted for Belnavis.

Belnavis, Councillor for the Ocho Rios Division, replaces Sydney Stewart who had taken over as Mayor after Mr Belnavis resigned in 2020. The Ocho Rios Councillor had resigned following an adverse finding from the Integrity Commission.
At Thursday’s swearing-in of the Councillors and formal selection of the Mayor, Stewart nominated Belnavis to be Chairman and Mayor.
The new Deputy Chairman and Deputy Mayor is Cardell Wickham of the Gibraltar Division.
Wickham was nominated by the previous deputy Mayor, Dalas Dickenson.
