A man who pleaded guilty to simple larceny was offered bail in the sum of $20,000 when he appeared in the St Ann’s Bay RM court on Friday, August 8.
The accused is Dante Phillips. He pleaded guilty to stealing an Irish Spring body wash at a pharmacy in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Allegations are that Phillips entered the stored on Saturday afternoon, July 26 and upon leaving the store, a security guard requested a search after it was observed that the clothes at the front of his body appeared stuffed. Phillips was said to have been clad in two shirts and after he lifted up the first one, he started to run. He was chased by the guard who accosted him. The Irish Spring body wash, valued at $650 was said to be taken from his person.
He was ordered to return to court on September 30 for sentencing by RM Andrea Thomas.
Thomas told the accused that: “Whether it is a penny or a million dollars, stealing is stealing. It is the act and the mind, not the quantum …dishonesty is dishonesty, Sir.”
“Do you agree with me?” she asked Phillips
“Yes, Your Honour,” he replied.
