CITES ‘SCURRILOUS AND MALICIOUS ALLEGATION’
MP candidate for the People’s National Party (PNP) in Western St. Mary, Errol Bascoe has resigned.
The PNP in a brief statement Friday evening, March 8, said it accepted Bascoe’s resignation. The PNP also released the resignation letter saying this was in “keeping with its commitment to the principle of transparency.”
Mr Bascoe said he was resigning “ with great regret and a heavy heart.”
He said he was doing so because of a “recent scurrilous and malicious allegation [that] has been levelled against me.” Mr Bascoe said he vehemently denied the allegation.
“I am innocent of this false accusation, and I am confident that the truth will prevail in due course,” the former PNP provisional candidate said.
Bascoe’s close supporters and party workers have been in a jubilant mood after the PNP won three of the five divisions in the St Mary Western Constituency, now represented by Robert Montague. With those, they were able to help with control of the St Mary Municipal Corporation for the PNP.
Bascoe is principal at Tacky High School in Gayle. See the letter of resignation below. by clicking the link
