One of two men charged for a 2012 murder in Ocho Rios has been granted bail.
Charged in relation to the March 1, murder of 22-year-old Kevin Bignal alias ‘Daddy Oh’ of Mansfield Heights, Ocho Rios are Kewayne Folks and Dwayne Daley.
Daley who was remanded in custody because of pending gun charges in the St James Circuit Court, was granted bail in the St Ann Circuit Court on Tuesday, October 31. This after it was confirmed in writing that Daley’s two cases in St James had been disposed of as no evidence was offered by the prosecution.
Attorney representing Daley, Ernest Smith, says Daley was charged in St James as a result of mistaken identity.
Daley was offered bail by high court judge Justice Dale Palmer in the sum of $800,000 with one or two sureties. Reporting conditions were attached and a curfew order imposed. A stop order was also put in place and Daley’s travel documents which were previously revoked are to remain surrendered.
The matter was set for priority to be tried on February 19, 2018.
On the other hand, Folks who was previously offer bail, was remanded in custody as he has a pending matter before the St Mary Circuit Court.
The murder
The Times reported in 2012 that at about 10 pm on March 1, Bignal and other people were at a business establishment in Mansfield Heights, when a man armed with a handgun, walked in behind Bignal and opened fire hitting him and another man.
Bignal ran and fell a short distance away. The gunman reportedly walked over him and shot him at least six times before escaping.
In court on Tuesday, it was said that the deceased was shot at least eight times and that after the shooting the accused men fled the scene.
Folks was reportedly apprehended by the police over a week later on March 26 after evidence was provided by means of facial recognition. His co accused, Daley, on the other hand was
apprehended almost a year later, in Great Pond Ocho Rios, St Ann. He was taken into custody on January 18, 2013, after the police received certain information.
According to attorney representing Daley, Ernest Smith, Daley was “totally unaware that he was wanted by the police”.
