BAHIA, COUPLES TOWER ISLE TOP GROUPS FOR SEMI FINAL ROUND

Favourite Bahia beats Beaches 1-0, Baking also wins

Couples Tower Isle and Gran Bahia Principe have topped the two groups in the Sandals International-sponsored St Ann/St Mary Business House football competition, earning a place in the semi-finals set to take place Thursday this week. The other two semi –finalists each of which will play the group winners are Baking Enterprise who won one match and Beaches Ocho Rios who got only a point. That means new winners will be crowned as Couples Sans Souci did not make it to the semis. They were hammered 3-0 by Bahia on Sunday, September 14 and because of an inferior goal difference to Beaches, will not advance.

In their first quarter final match Thursday, Grand Bahia Principe one of the favourites to lift the title carved out a narrow 1-0 win over Beaches Ocho Rios. Bahia, winners of Zone C but faced a tough challenge in the first half from Beaches. However it was the men from Runaway Bay who took the lead, in added time at the end of the first half , through a penalty. Number 7, Marvin Stewart beat the Beaches custodian Dean Henry with the penalty kick that settled in the right bottom corner of the net. Though the coaches of the two teams made changes in the second half, and play seemed faster, there was no addition to the score. Bahia supporters were happy for the narrow 1-0 win, especially after so many had said at the start that they would lose. Bahia remains unbeaten in the competition so far.
