The proper fencing, the colourful design of the school building and the smiles of the children are some of the features evident as you arrive at the Assemblies of the First Born Basic School.
The school is situated in western St. Mary in the community of Three Hills. The school is managed by the Assemblies of the First Born Church and was started in 1992 in the church by the current principal of the school, Annet Gordon. She explained to The Times her reason for staring the school. “I was working in the tourist industry at the time but persons in the Three Hills Community were concerned about the lack of a basic school in the area. With the encouragement of Pastor Donald Collins of the Assemblies of the First Born church, I resigned from my job and started the school. Educating children was really my passion,” explained Ms. Gordon. However, it was Meg Morgan, chairperson of the school board, who contacted Food for the Poor to assist with the construction of the school building which was completed in September of 2014. CHASE Fund provided the fencing of the new school grounds.
There are five teachers, a cook and two janitors at the Assemblies of the First Born Basic School. There are 68 students on roll. Principal Gordon also noted that basic Spanish and computer studies are provided. In addition, she emphasized that all teachers are certified in Early Childhood Education and are qualified to bring quality education to the students of Three Hills. Assemblies 2
