ANOTHER TRAILER SMASHES THROUGH MAMMEE BAY ROUNDABOUT

More Hassles For Motorists After Yet Another Crash

Another trailer truck crash just past the roundabout at Mammee Bay (Drax Hall), St Ann, this morning just before 7 o’clock, led to a massive pile-up of traffic and delays for more than two hours around the crash site.

A trailer truck headed north, toward the roundabout began to spill bags of cement as it headed down the last few kilometers of the Edward Seaga Highway (or North-South Toll Road). The driver was able to keep the vehicle on the road and it crashed through the roundabout and then smashed through the metal railings ending up on the roadside among some signage, almost before the Olde Fort gated community.

Several motorists marvelled at the skill of the driver in preventing the out-of-control vehicle from doing greater damage.

No one was reportedly hurt though there were some reports that a car had been hit as the trailer truck sped out of control.

Motorists were again complaining about the dangers of the last few kilometers, on a relatively steep decline, into the roundabout at Mammee Bay.

Despite repeated crashes at the roundabout itself, nothing has been done by the operators of the toll road, to reduce the likelihood of crashes.

Meantime, hundreds of commuters were greatly inconvenienced because of the crash. Up to 9:30, there were long lines of traffic especially out

of Ocho Rios, heading west, toward St Ann’s Bay. The four kilometers from the Pier to the roundabout crash site took more than 40 minutes for some motorists. There was no police direction of traffic and several motorists illegally used the hard shoulder as an extra lane to get by the traffic.

Some just didn’t wait and formed a lane on the hard shoulder
