ANOTHER PRIORY MURDER

10 IN THE AREA SINCE JAN,  POLICE SAY THINGS NOT OUT OF CONTROL

Another murder has been committed in the Priory area of St Ann, bringing to at least 10 the number of people killed in that seaside town and surrounding communities this year.

The latest victim is 42-year-old security contractor, Karan Llewelyn of Jacks River, St Mary.

Llewelyn was shot and killed in Seaview Heights close to the home of his girlfriend who lives in the area.

Police reports are that Llewellyn and the woman were on their way to her house about 9:00 Monday night, December 5, when they were attacked by men in a car. Several shots were fired at the couple. Llewellyn was hit several times in the upper body and the woman was also shot.

They were both taken to the nearby St Ann’s Bay Hospital where Llewelyn was pronounced dead. The woman was treated.

Police told the North Coast Times they had no motive. They were unwilling to speculate over whether this latest attack was connected to previous murders, including two double killings in the area.

However, police have said Priory and communities such as Lewis, Banks and Seaview Heights are under their watch.

In late November officer in charge of crime, Deputy Superintendent Linton Bailey told stakeholders at a public meeting that the traditional hot spots were not necessarily where most of the murders were taking place now. He said the Priory space was of concern.

The North Coast Times on Tuesday asked Superintendent in charge of St Ann, David White if things were out of control in Priory. He said, “things are not out of control.” He said his officers were on the ground and have some leads in the latest murder.
