Senior parish court judge Andrea Thomas is to join the high court.
Sources close to the court say a decision has already been made to have Judge Thomas named to the high court bench.
Ms Thomas has been serving the RM and then parish court in St Ann for years now, handling civil and criminal cases.
Defense lawyers spoken to about the move said Ms Thomas is a worthy candidate for the Bench of the Supreme Court and should have long been appointed.
One said that she may not be popular with the public but she grounded her decisions and opinion in law.
Her appointment will be formally announced shortly.
Meantime there is concern among attorneys about whether a replacement for Ms Thomas will be named soon. They say only two parish judges have been operating with regularity in St Ann and that is helping to pile up cases in the court. Four judges are considered necessary for St Ann which is now listing return dates for civil cases to mid to late 2018.
