Alleged cow thief chopped to death

Police have still not identified a man chopped to death by a mob in Moneague St Ann, Thursday.

It’s the third death in St Ann in a week of persons accused of stealing farm animals. The yet to be identified man was one of two people accosted by area residents. The second man, also accused of stealing cattle, escaped.

Preliminary reports from the police are that at about 9:45 a.m., at Mine Road in Clapham district, Moneague in the parish, the man along with another went to steal cattle. Reports are they killed  two cows.

The men were approached by citizens, who saw what was happening.

An altercation developed between the citizens and the two men.

The unidentified male received several chop wounds. He was taken to hospital by police and pronounced dead.

The other man escaped.

Last week Thursday two men were chopped to death in Bensonton, about 25 kilometres  from Moneague. They were also accused of stealing farm animals, this time goats.
