Police are preparing to lay several charges against a St Ann man arrested in the abduction of a university student in Kingston and who was driven to St Ann where police intercepted her captor and the woman.Police sources tell the North Coast Times they have reports of at least four other similar situations involving the man. They had suspected him in at least one other case of driving away a car without the owner’s permission and then abandoning it.One cop said this was the man’s modus operandi, not necessarily wanting to steal and sell the car or use it for any crime but that he tended to drive them away and abandon them. “He loves cars” the cop said.Police reports are that last week Friday, a woman parked her Honda CRV at a school on Duke Street, Kingston and took two children into the building, leaving her 20-year old daughter in the front passenger seat and with the CRV’s engine running.A man then walked up to the car, went in and drove it away with the frightened 20-year-old woman inside. When the mother returned the car was gone and she alerted the police.Police reportedly spotted the car at some point in St Catherine but the driver eluded them and made his way to St Ann in the Drax Hall area. Reports to the North Coast Times are that the driver in fact stopped along the way and bought refreshment.Police later picked up his trail and intercepted the car with the student still sitting in it.The man was arrested. He is being held at the St Ann’s Bay Lock Up.Police later realised they had him, a resident of St Ann’s Bay, as a suspect in another case. One detective said the man was questioned over driving away his father’s car and abandoning it in Oracabessa, in neighbouring St Mary.Police sources also confirm that the man took another car in similar fashion to that he drove away from Kingston. It is reported that a young woman was sitting in a car at a school on Main Street,Ocho Rios when the suspect walked up, got into the car and started to drive it away. The young woman in the car grabbed her purse from the back seat and jumped from the moving car. The car was found several miles away.In another incident, this time at a plaza in Coconut Grove, Pineapple, Ocho Rios, the suspect went into an SUV left open by a real estate agent and drove the car away. Police found it in Steer Town, about ten miles away.Police sources say they are baffled by the man’s motives. “He even stole a car drove it to a gas station filled it up and drove off the pump with the attendants screaming at him. Then he left the car some distance away,” a cop related.Police say even though the incidents did not result in harm to anyone the suspect was dangerous and will be charged with multiple counts by weekend.
