PT ANTONIO, TITCHFIELD TO CONTINUE BATTLE FOR 2ND PLACE IN ZONE N
Happy Grove, already sure of their place in the Inter-Zone round from Group ‘N’, dismissed Titchfield 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
That left the spot of the other team to advance still in doubt, as Port Antonio(4 points) and Titchfield (three points) could still make it. A draw would be enough for Port Antonio while Titchfield would have to win.
The daCosta Cup teams from the two schools, based in the parish capital, will play a deciding derby on Friday, October 13.
Port Antonio simply need to draw to make it out, along with Happy Grove.
In Saturday’s match at Carder Park, Happy Grove appeared relaxed, possibly because there was nothing to play for and their dominance in the Zone had already been established – having not been defeated in all their outings away and at home.
Coach for Happy Grove Vincent Wallace said it was an “ugly game” and his team was not applying the game plan.
Demar Malcolm struck the winner from a patient build-up in the 82nd minute. Watch:
Port Antonio advanced their cause Friday, October 6 when they dismissed Fair Prospect 4-0 at Carder Park. They had a brace from Andre Benard, who hit the back of the net in the 65th and 85th minutes. Jahrese Arthurs in the 79th was the other scorer for Port Antonio. An own goal by Fair Prospect started the scoring.
In the ill-tempered match, both teams ended with ten players. Port Antonio’s Jerold Speid and Fair Prospect’s Kerone George were expelled for violent conduct in extra time.
