One dies in St Mary aircraft crash

 

Police have identified the person who died when a small aircraft crashed in St Mary this morning.

Dead is 74-year-old pilot Dudley Beeks.

Beeks and a passenger on the plane were airlifted to the UHWI, by a rescue team that reached the crash spot about 11, Friday May 5. The health status of the passenger is not known.

According to a police report issued late Friday afternoon, reports from the Port Maria Police are that about 9:50 p.m., Beeks was flying to the Ian Fleming Airport in St. Mary from Kingston when he landed prematurely and crashed in the mentioned area [Ballards Valley]. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.”

And in an earlier release this afternoon, the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) said the aircraft left the Tinson Pen Aerodrome for the Ian Fleming International Airport (St Mary) at 9:03 a.m. (1403 UTC), Friday, May 5, 2023, with two (2) souls on board.”

The JCAA expressed “its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those affected by the aircraft accident.”
