St Ann Confident After Whipping Westmoreland To Reach Senior Cup Semis

TEAM LOOKS TO WEEKEND MATCH AT HOME

 

 

St Ann are into the semi-finals of the Senior Cup Cricket competition after battering Westmoreland over two days, at the weekend, at the Noranda playfield in Discovery Bay.

Damion Bryce starred the show for St Ann CA, scoring centuries in both innings for the Garden parish team. On the bowling side, Christopher Lamont took the honours helping send St Catherine to a first innings loss.

St Ann batting first piled up a mammoth 312 for eight declared, before dispatching Westmoreland for 141 all out, to take the first innings points. In a second turn at bat, St Ann scored 221 for eight declared putting the match out of Westmoreland’s reach and time.

The team from the west did not bat a second time.

Bryce scored 100 not out in the first innings and 102 in the second as he enjoyed the Westmoreland bowling. Skipper for St Ann, Damani Sewell also relished the bowling, scoring 85 in the first innings and 44 in the second. Other strong contributors to St Ann totals were Swayne Wilson, with 46 in the first innings and Renaldo Ingram 35, in the second innings.

Main contributors to the Westmoreland score were Andre Blake 40, Odel Samuels 44 and Okeeno Farquharson 33.

Top bowler for St Ann were Christopher Lamont with six for 34 and Orando Royes with two for 23.

Skipper Sewell, was elated with the win. A seasoned campaigner with the Jamaica Scorpions, from2017to2020, he said the St Ann team has been facing many hurdles since COVID-19. He said St Ann  had disappointments with the T-20 and the 50-over competitions. But, Sewell said the team members stuck together through it all. “We’ve been working hard and training hard and we knew our reward would come.” He said. Sewell told the North Coast Times that the team was confident going into the match against Kingston CC, the coming weekend at Discovery Bay, their home ground. “The guys are really upbeat and ready. We know we have the psychological advantage at home. One match at a time.”
