A 29-year-old taxi operator has been arrested and charged for being among those who looted a crashed truck near Faith’s Pen, on Saturday, November 19.
Meantime, police sources told North Coast Times they have leads to the person who shot dead the driver of the goods truck, causing the vehicle to crash. It was then looted of more than $1.4 million in food items.
Charged with simple larceny is Kemar Graham, taxi operator of Faiths Pens, St. Ann. Police said he was arrested and charged with the offence after he gave a caution statement admitting that he was involved in the looting on Saturday morning last week.
Reports are that dozens of people looted a Leyland truck that crashed along the Faith’s Pen main road. Police say 47-year-old Dave Brown was driving the truck that was taking goods from Facey Commodity in Kingston to customers in Hanover.
The truck was attacked and Brown was shot in the chest. He lost control of the vehicle which mounted an embankment and then overturned. Several people looted goods including flour, cornmeal, cooking oil, butter, and condensed milk.
Police said when they arrested Graham he had in his possession ten 5-gallon jugs of cooking oil, two tubs of Chiffon margarine, 48 cans of Betty milk, two bags of cornmeal, and two bags of flour. The goods in Graham’s possession were said to be valued at $120,000.
Police say they are hunting the killer and want people to identify looters.
