Residents of Tower Isle, St Mary were left in shock on Thursday morning, June 28, after a well-known mechanic was found hanging from a tree at the seaside.
Dead is 71-year-old Lascelles Powell, otherwise called Bowa, a mechanic of Seaview Avenue in Tower Isle in the parish.
Residents are still questioning the reason that would have led Powell to take his own life. He was seen alive on Wednesday night.
Reports say that Powell had some financial issues that assumed greater proportion in recent time. However, those reports were not confirmed as the contents of a suicide note he left were not revealed.
Police reports stated that Powell was found hanging by a piece of cord at about 11:21 a.m.
The body was discovered by a passing fisherman who then alerted Powell’s brother.
It is further alleged that Powell’s brother found a suicide note at his (brother’s) house and brought it to the Area Two Police and notified the authorities.
Some residents have described the mechanic as a good man and they are in disbelief in the action of Powell to kill himself.
Investigations are ongoing by the police into the matter.
