Life of a criminal – wanted for 3 murders, he died in shootout

Devroy Vernon, alias “Peboo” was also suspected to have been shot and wounded during a shoot-out between the police and gunmen.

That shooting occurred in Rio Nuevo, St Mary on Saturday, October 15.  Vernon was wanted for shooting with intent at the police.

In that incident, an unidentified gunman was fatally shot and killed by the police at about 1:20 p.m. The man still has not been identified weeks after the shooting.

Vernon was also being sought by the St Mary police for questioning in relation to the murder of 34-year-old Roderick Williams, popularly known as ‘Kevin’, of Capture Land in Boscobel, St Mary on Friday morning, October 7.

Police said Williams was waiting outside a passenger’s house, when two armed men approached him and proceeded to rob Williams of an undetermined sum of money and a cellphone. The men later shot Williams several times and escaped on foot in the area.

Head of the St Mary police, deputy superintendent Dwight Powell, explained that with Vernon’s demise, the police will have be do some “administrative” work regarding the cases.

FALKLANDS MURDERS

Devroy Vernon’s onslaught as a notorious gunman first started to grow roots in Falklands or Mansfield Heights community.

He was wanted in relation to two murders in that area earlier this year.

In the first murder, it was then reported that at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, a man, Brian Henry was relaxing with friends when two men armed with handguns opened fire at the group. Henry and one other man were shot.

Both were rushed to hospital, where Henry was pronounced dead and the other man, identified as a soldier, admitted for treatment.

Vernon was said to be the main shooter in that incident and was wanted for murder. His brother, Howard Bryan was charged in relation to that murder and was granted bail.

However, Vernon was never caught.

Vernon was also being sought for questioning in relation to the shooting death of 23-year-old Byron Edwards otherwise called ‘Don’ on Thursday night, September 8 in Falklands.

Reports are that about 8:35 p.m., Edwards was walking along the roadway in the Falklands community when he was pounced upon by armed men who opened gunfire at him. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.peebo
