Government is going to court to seek to seize the assets of well known businessman Norris ‘Deedo’ Nembhard who is in prison serving a prison sentence for drugs.
The Government assets recovery agency has filed a claim in the Supreme Court, seeking an order for the forfeiture of assets of Nembhard who was well known across the parish but especially from his bases in Runaway Bay and Claremont.Nembhard who was a haulage contractor and reputed owner of several heavy duty vehicles and equipment was arrested and extradited with four others to the united states in 2009, after allegedly being involved in a massive drug ring.
He pleaded guilty to the drug charges and was sentenced to 13 years in a US prison. At the time he was arrested, US law enforcers and top Jamaican security officers swooped down in a pre-dawn raid on Nembhard’s residence.On the day the dramatic raid they reportedly removed a family members from a top end vehicle and drove it away for safe keeping.The assets Government has listed for forfeiture are six properties in Cardiff Hall, St Ann and 12 motor vehicles.The court granted an order last week for Deedo Nembhard or his agent Claudia Nembhard to provide full particulars of all the assets owned by him. A legal expert says the process could take some time before government gets its hands on the assets it claims were ill-gotten gains.
