College Kicks Off Year of 70th Anniversary Celebrations, More This Month

Pastor Patricia Holness has described The Moneague College, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, as wonderful, awesome, and outstanding.
Dr Holness was the guest preacher at the 70th anniversary thanksgiving service of the college at its main campus in Moneague, St Ann, on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The service was the first of several celebratory events to mark the anniversary of Moneague’s founding in 1956. It started as a teacher’s college and has been through several stages of reform and expansion, becoming an institutionally accredited multidisciplinary institution. It now offers a range of associate and degree programmes, including Business Studies, Hospitality Management, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Environmental Science, Management Information Systems, Teacher Education and others. The college also collaborates with other tertiary institutions, including Caribbean Maritime University, University of the West Indies and Jamaica Theological Seminary to offer other programmes.

MONEAGUE COLLEGE BEGINS 70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
In commending the Moneague College for the progress it has made over the years, Dr Holness reminded congregants that the college was closed for a short period, 1985-87. She said that God was watching over it, leading to its reopening and continued progress.

She also encouraged students not to consider their degree or qualifications to be the biggest thing in their lives. She said they should consider making their success “a bridge to others.” She encouraged them to stand strong and share their achievements with others, each positively influencing the life of even one person.

The service was held in collaboration with the Discipleship and Restoration Ministries, which holds its worship sessions on Sunday mornings at the Gloria Johnson auditorium at the Moneague.
Bridgette Flowers, Minister at the Discipleship and Restoration Ministries, and head of the Examination Department at the Moneague College, welcomed the congregation to the service. She said the welcome was to “Seventy years of excellence, 70 years of service, 70 years of nation building, 70 years of lives transformed and futures reshaped, and 70 years of God’s unfailing faithfulness.”
Dwight Simms, Pastor at the Discipleship and Restoration Ministries, delivered the opening prayer. De’Jaun Rowe, a Year 2 student, did the first reading, Psalm 103: 1-22, and Kaydiann Harrilal did the second, from 1 Samuels1-17
The Moneague Ensemble did one selection, “Grateful”, and participated in a lively praise and worship session. The college Band and other students also participated in the programme.
