Some Work to Be Done at Night, Lane Restriction to Result

Long overdue repairs are to be done to roads in Ocho Rios township, St Ann.
The roadworks are expected to get underway Saturday evening, August 29, at 8, resulting in reduced surface availability along Main Street.
Communication and Customer Services manager at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says that over the next 10 days, Main Street will be reduced intermittently to single-lane traffic.
For weeks now, motorists have been complaining about the deterioration of the surface between Island Village and through to Sandcastle. Parts of the roadway, beautified with bricks and asphalt, have been ripped up, leaving potholes and uneven surfaces.
According to the NWC, the works will entail the removal of the old asphaltic concrete surface. Some 700 metres of the stretch between Island Village and the intersection of Milford Road will be targeted.
Mr. Shaw says that works will also be done on the section of road between the entrance to the Moon Palace Hotel and the Ocho Rios Market.
Additionally, the roadway at Fisherman’s Beach will also be targeted and will involve the removal of failed sections of the road embankment. These sections will be repaired. Also, the NWA says sidewalks along the section of the North Coast Highway, between Evelyn Street and Bucksfield, will also be repaired. The newly paved road sections will be completed with Raised Pavement Markers (cats’ eyes) and markings.
The NWA says some activities will be undertaken at night, while some areas will be reduced to single-lane traffic during the period of the works.
The works, to include patching between White River and Milford Road, are being done for $50 million.
