SAFETY OF CHILDREN PRIORITIZED
Schools are to close on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The Ministry of Education in a bulletin Monday said face-to-face classes should not be held in the country’s schools.
The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information (MoESYI)
said that this is “to prioritize the safety of all students and staff as the impending weather system passes over the island.”
The Ministry noted forecasts by the Met Service that a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Jamaica as the area of low pressure over the southern Caribbean is forecast to further develop and move closer to the island. It is anticipated that significant rainfall may occur, potentially resulting in flooding.
School administrations have been asked to activate the Education in Emergency Plan to support the continuity of learning and ensure that the students are actively engaged. This will require schools to transition to the remote/online modality for teaching and learning activities for the day. Students without access to the internet or a computer/tablet must be given assigned tasks in their workbooks/textbooks as per their timetable, etc., to minimize the disruptions in their learning plan.
