VEHICLE WASHED AWAY AT FORDING, PASSENGERS ESCAPE
RICHMOND, St Mary, Oct. 26, 2024
A taxi operator drowned and his passengers suffered broken bones when the vehicle they were in was washed away at a flooded fording near Highgate, St Mary, on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

Reports are that the taxi was being driven from Highgate to John Crowe Spring with two passengers on board. Upon reaching the Richmond road the driver saw it was impassable and he took another route through Marlborough.
Several roads have been inundated by heavy rains lashing that section of the parish since Friday.

Upon reaching the Duck River fording the driver attempted to cross when the vehicle was pushed downstream by the water. The silver Toyota Probox was washed away with the driver. The two passengers managed to escape.
Reports to the North Coast Times are that the passengers suffered broken bones and bruises and were taken to the Annotto Bay hospital.
