STUDENTS FROM VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS EXPERIENCE RESEARCH AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP ON DISPLAY
Dozens of students from educational institutions across Jamaica attended Research and Open Day at Moneague College, St Ann on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
The Kenneth Anderson Research and Open Day was staged under the theme “Transforming Lives and Creating Sustainable Development Through Partnership and Research.”
The opening ceremony was held in the Gloria Johnson Multi-Purpose Hall on the main campus of the college and was chaired by Nigel Nelson, lecturer. The invocation was given by Rev. Michael Llewellyn, vice-chairman of the Board of Management.

Principal of the College, Howard Isaacs in bringing greetings and welcoming guests said the College was highlighting the work of the faculty and students. He thanked all those involved for their contribution.
RESEARCH CULTURE
In the programme message, Mr. Isaacs said: “Today we highlight the diverse array of research projects and academic endeavours undertaken by our students, faculty, and guest researchers. Alongside these presentations, our faculties, schools, and departments will showcase innovations and information as we seek new recruits to join the Moneague experience.”

Chairman of The Moneague College Board, Professor John Lindo said the Board supported: “the college management to build a culture of research.” He said: “We will be investing that some of this work here is published and in good journals.”
Greetings were also brought by Dr. Donna Powell Wilson, executive director of the Community Colleges of Jamaica.
Delicia Lawrence, a Criminal Justice student introduced Dr. Herbert Gayle, social anthropologist and senior lecturer at the University of the West Indies, who was the keynote speaker at the plenary session.
ENTREPRENEURIAL LAUNCH
Following the plenary session, highlighted by Dr Gayle’s affirmation of the benefits of science and research, there was the Entrepreneurship Launch. Moderators were Dwania Duhaney Millen and Andrick Perry. In this segment, team leaders (CEOs), who were year-two students enrolled in the Associate degree programmes, explained what their teams or groups were about and the services or goods being offered.

Students and other visitors moved around the Gloria Johnson multipurpose hall and the college grounds, where various booths were set up, sampling the products or asking questions regarding what was on offer.
Simultaneously there were lectures discussing research findings in a variety of areas. The research held up to scrutiny came several institutions.

Presenters included Dr Paul Bourne, Steve Lawrence, Dr Devon Crossfield, Devon Case, Denise Brown, Dr Joseph McKenzie, Hannah Kay Steer, Dr Reckonel Simpson, Dr Junior Martin, Mark McKnight, Shanae Hamilton, Breanna Hawthorne, Dwania Duhaney-Millen, Dr Khadijah Williams. Students enrolled in the Criminal Justice, Hospitality and Tourism, and Social Work programmes also had research posters on display.

Foster College of Physical Education & Sport, Bethlehem Moravian College, Vocational Training Development Institute (VTDI), The College of Agriculture, Science & Education (CASE) and Excelsior Community College.
